Feb 01, 2011
Central Valley built a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a Section 2-AAA win over Ellwood City Lincoln.
The Lady Warriors (1-8, 4-14) claimed their first section win since the merger of Center and Monaca after the 2009-2010 school year.
The Lady Wolverines (1-9, 8-12) trailed by just two points with 1:12 to go but turned the ball over and Central Valley converted it into a four-point lead. Ellwood City eventually hit a 3-pointer with four seconds to go, but was out of timeouts and Central Valley held on.
“We just dug ourselves too deep of a hole and we couldn’t get out of it,” Lady Wolverines coach Bill Gottuso said. “Fundamentals is what beat us. Coming down the stretch, we just didn’t get it done.”
Asia Borders recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds for Ellwood City, while Michelle Nocera added 11 markers. Allison Marshall tossed in 10 points and handed out seven assists.
Gossely Warfield recorded 12 points for the Lady Warriors.
