North East nips Neshannock
North East (46) Vs. Neshannock (45)
Dec 30, 2010
Neshannock gave the Grapepickers one too many opportunities in the West Middlesex Tournament.
The Lancers (4-2) allowed 11 offensive rebounds and couldn’t convert on two field-goal attempts in the final seconds.
North East led by one and was at the free-throw line with nine seconds remaining. The Grapepickers (4-1) missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Neshannock’s John Sansone grabbed the rebound, dribbled up court and passed to Brandon Marinelli, who missed a jump shot. Nick Graziani corralled the rebound but couldn’t sink a putback attempt with two seconds left.
The final minutes weren’t what bothered Lancers coach John Corey.
“The problem was we gave up 11 offensive rebounds, and on at least four of those, they got the rebound, kicked it out to a shooter and they buried a 3,” he said.
Marinelli registered team highs in points (17) and rebounds (six). Sansone scored 11 and handed out seven assists.
The Lancers play Reynolds in the consolation game at 6 p.m. today.
