Union girls win first
Union (33) Vs. New Brighton (22)
Dec 30, 2014
Both sides struggled to find its shot as Union put together enough firepower to win its Union Booster Tournament opener.
Union and New Brighton combined to connect on 20 field goals and hit nine of a combined 30 free-throw attempts.
New Brighton (1-7) led 15-10 after the first half, but was held to tally just seven points, all in the third quarter, the rest of the way.
Union, in turn, found its touch from the floor and scored 23 points in the second half.
“We missed shots in the first half, they missed shots in the second half,” Union coach Larry Ondako said. “We did a pretty nice job defensively in the fourth quarter. They just couldn’t make a hoop. Pretty poor shooting for both sides. But we knocked down the shots when we needed to.”
Sarah Seamans led the Lady Scots (1-8) with 13 points and Skylar Thompson added 10.
Amanda Turnbull had 11 points for the Lady Lions.
The Lady Scots will face Laurel in the championship game of the Booster Tournament.
