Lady Lancers win big
Neshannock (60) Vs. Rochester (25)
Dec 17, 2014
Madison McHale hit five 3-pointers as the host Lady Lancers breezed to a nonsection win over Rochester.

McHale finished with a game-high 20 points for Neshannock (3-1) with Madison Jones and Cassidy Burrelli also eclipsing the double digit mark with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Jones added seven rebounds, while Erin Warvell tallied three points and seven assists.

The Lady Lancers only committed six turnovers, a sight that Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski welcomed.

“Early on, I thought we shot the ball exceptionally well,” Grybowski said. “Our shooting percentage wasn’t great but I played a lot of kids a lot of minutes. We have some young kids in there which will help us down the road. We didn’t turn the ball over so when those two things happen, it usually equals success.”

Neshannock was dealt another injury, this time to guard Marissa DeMatteo. The senior, who has already signed her national letter of intent to play softball at the University of Pittsburgh, tore her anterior cruciate ligament last week and will miss the rest of the basketball season, as well as the upcoming softball season.

DeMatteo is now the third Lady Lancers player to suffer an injury, following Stephanie Paras and Tayler Grybowski. Paras likely is out for the year, while Grybowski is attemping to rehab a leg injury.

“I was just so elated to have her back,” Luann Grybowski said of DeMatteo. “She’s athletic and a great teammate and I feel terrible that she got hurt.

“We lost three quality kids, but we have other kids stepping up. Hopefully we can continue with the success.”
