Wilmington turns back Mercer
Wilmington (64) Vs. Mercer (59)
Dec 13, 2014
Spencer DeMedal poured in a career-high 26 points in Wilmington’s 64-59 District 10, Region 2-AA homecourt win over Mercer

DeMedal added 15 rebounds, including six on the offensive end, as well as seven assists, as Wilmington improved to 1-0 in region play, 1-1 overall.

“Spencer (who scored only 1 point) struggled on Tuesday against Farrell, so we had a talk about how he needs to lead this team,” Greyhounds coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “He’s only a sophomore, but I believe he’s one of the top guards in the county. Tonight, he took the team on his back. He scored, he rebounded, he did it all. This was really a big victory for us.”

Mercer slipped to 0-1, 0-4.

Wilmington was 21 of 28 from the free throw line, including 12 of 16 in the fourth quarter. DeMedal was 6 of 7 from the stripe in the final frame.

Travis Brumbaugh added 12 points and five steals for the victors, while Marc Peoples added five blocks. Reese Bender scored six points, including what Jeckavitch called “a huge 3,” with 2 1/2 minutes to go.
