The Wildcats took a 31-24 lead at the half and ran away with a victory in the consolation round of the Union Booster Tournament.

Rich Gaston and Mike Murcko each turned in a double-double effort. Gaston led all scorers with 20 points and added 10 rebounds. Murcko scored 13 and grabbed 10 boards.

“We shot the ball really well tonight,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “We had balanced scoring with our guards and big men both doing a really good job.”

Andrew Watson chipped in with 10 points for the Wildcats (8-6). Watson had three 3-pointers. Bryan Chieze had 15 assists to go with his four points.

Tyler Masone led Laurel (1-10) with 11 points. He had three 3-pointers.

Eric Wallas followed with eight points.

“We really did a good job in defense, especially stepping it up in the fourth quarter,” McQuiston said, concerning Shenango’s 14-4 advantage in the final period. “Laurel is a young team, but they work really hard.
They have a pretty good team over there and we knew we had to be prepared tonight.”
