Freedom boys edge Ellwood
Freedom (64) Vs. Ellwood City (63)
Jan 11, 2011
A pair of free throws by Freedom sunk Ellwood City in a nonsection matchup with Freedom.

The Bulldogs (3-5) made two free throws with 20 seconds remaining to go up by one, and Ryan Horgan’s jump shot rimmed out with three seconds left.

Ellwood City coach Al Campman said a lapse in the fourth quarter hurt the Wolverines (6-5).

“We had control of the game and they made a run early in the fourth quarter,” he said. “Their point guard, (Franzee) Barlamas, broke us down pretty good. He scored 19 and probably had 10 assists.”

The Wolverines led, 52-49, entering the fourth, but they were outscored, 15-11. Marcus McCowin led Ellwood City with 17 points, including five of the Wolverines’ 11 3-pointers. Horgan, who missed Ellwood City’s last game with an injured ankle, was next with 14 points.
