Laurel (59) Vs. Shenango (36)
Dec 17, 2010
Shenango scored half of its points in the first quarter but couldn’t find the range the rest of the game in dropping a Section 2-AA contest to Laurel.
The Lady Spartans (1-0, 1-2) erased an 18-15 deficit after the first quarter by outscoring the Lady Wildcats (0-1, 1-3), 21-5, in the second period.
Shenango, which shot 13 of 39 from the floor, committed 23 turnovers. The Lady Wildcats got as close as eight points in the third quarter before Laurel put the game away.
“We gave up too many baskets under the hoop and they took more shots than us,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “We improved on a lot of areas and we’re looking to improve on things each game.
“The girls showed a lot of heart and they kept battling. We just couldn’t get over the hump.”
Marisa Wallas recorded a game-best 21 points for the Lady Spartans, while Becca Kerr chipped in with 11. Aislinn Deinert was next with 10.
Justine Razo tossed in 10 markers to lead the Lady Wildcats. Amanda Herb and Brianne Keyser each pulled down eight rebounds for Shenango.
