Riverside (57) Vs. Mohawk (45)
Dec 17, 2010
A late run by Riverside helped the Lady Panthers stay unbeaten and win its Section 2-AA opener over Mohawk.

The Lady Panthers (1-0, 4-0) led by just five with 90 seconds left, and Mohawk had the ball. The Lady Warriors (0-1, 2-2) turned the ball over, Riverside scored and then made five consecutive free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

The defeat was a tough one for Mohawk, but coach Mike O’Lare said the Lady Warriors will grow from it.

“We did learn a lot about our team tonight,” he said. “We know we can compete, but we’re not satisfied with that. We want to get over the hump. We’re trying to grow up and grow up fast.”

Janiel Henley led Mohawk with 14 points and nine rebounds. Brooke Shasteen added 11 points and eight boards. Riverside’s Ariana Kelly scored a game-high 16 points.
