The Eagles rallied to tie the game at the end of regulation and took the win in overtime at the Jamestown tournament.
Grand River led throughout the game, including 42-32 at halftime. Wilmington (0-2) trimmed the deficit to 53-48 after three quarters. The Greyhounds took a 61-59 lead with three seconds remaining in regulation, but the Eagles hit a pair of free throws to send the contest into an extra stanza. The Ohioans outscored Wilmington, 8-3, in overtime to take the win.
“The team fought back. Being a young team, I thought they showed a lot of heart,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said.
Matt Bowen and Curtis Bretz both tallied 16 points for the ’Hounds. Bowen added nine rebounds and was named to the all-tournament team. Vince Pitzulo had 13 points and six assists, while Anthony Derrick added 10 points and six assists.
