The Laurel High boys basketball team keeps on winning.
The Spartans defeated Shenango on the road, 77-48, in a WPIAL Section 2-AA matchup last night.
Five players scored in double digits for Laurel (4-2 section, 8-4 overall), which has won four straight.
Jake Dando notched a game-high 17 points, followed by Eric Wallas (15), Shane Caldararo (14), Tyler Forbes (14) and Chad Long (11).
The Spartans shot 34 of 54 from the floor, including 5 of 12 from behind the arc.
But Laurel coach Mike Tinstman was more pleased with his team’s defense. The Spartans held Shenango (1-5, 2-12) to only 11 points in the first half.
“I thought we really played good defense,” Tinstman said. “That was one of our better defensive games in the first half. Shenango has some good shooters and we knew that.”
Dando grabbed eight rebounds and Forbes dished out eight assists.
The Spartans raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.
“That set the tone,” Tinstman said. “I was really pleased with the aggressive play that we had.”
Jeff Williams led Shenango with 14 points and Joe Colavecchia added 10.
