Senior Emily McKissick scored 11 points and handed out six assists to pace the Lady Spartans to a 42-36 win over Freeport in the opener of the Slippery Rock Tipoff Tournament.

Laurel will meet the host team for the tourney title at 7:30 p.m. today.

The Lady Spartans held a one-point lead after three quarters but outscored Freeport, 12-7, in the final frame.

“I was impressed with the way we finished the game,” head coach Jenn McGarrah said. “It got really close for a while, and we were able to hit some free throws and a couple of key shots to hold them off.”

Nicolette McCormick, Becca Kerr and Dalainey Meals each had eight points for Laurel. Cassie Yough was the top rebounder with nine.

Jessica McFadden keyed Freeport with 14 points.
