Mason Mraz stood by and watched several weeks ago when his senior teammates scored the 1,000th points of their careers.
Friday night was his turn.
The Laurel High junior crossed the 1,000-point plateau in the Spartans' 88-64 WPIAL Section 1-AA road rout at Riverside.
Mraz, who posted a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, now has 1,016 points for his career. He joins senior teammates Scott Siddall and Jacob Wilson in hitting the magic number.
"For a junior to hit that mark, that's really something special," Laurel coach Ken Locke said. "But you expect that consistent scoring from him every night, that's just the type of player he is. It never gets old, we'll take it every night.
"I am so proud of who he is and what he has become."
Siddall led the Laurel attack with 24 points, followed by Wilson with 20 and Isici Layne with a season-high 10.
The Spartans are now 8-2 in the section, tied with Neshannock for second place behind section champion Lincoln Park. Laurel plays at Neshannock in the regular-season finale Friday.
Dylan Speicher paced Riverside with 23.
