The Lady Lancers recaptured first place in the Section 1-AA standings with a 61-23 win over the Lady Lions.
Neshannock (8-2, 15-3) is in first place by a half game over Riverside (8-3, 16-3), which dropped a 58-53 decision to Mohawk on Thursday.
“Anybody can beat anybody in our section,” Lady Lancers coach Luann Grybowski said. “I really think our section is one of the toughest in double-A, night in and night out. Nothing surprises me.
“It’s a good, tough section. If you don’t win it, you have no shot of being in the top six in seedings. We have to get ready for the stretch drive.”
Carmie Matarazzo notched 14 points to lead the Lady Lancers, to go along with 10 rebounds and four steals. Ally Zarilla tossed in 13 points with three steals, while Stephanie Paras provided 12 tallies.
Bella Burrelli recorded seven steals to go with six rebounds. Aidan Noga netted five points while dishing out four assists.
Libby Thomas tossed in 10 tallies to lead New Brighton (0-10, 3-15).
Neshannock puts its narrow section lead on the line at 7:30 p.m. Monday when it visits Shenango. The Lady Wildcats won the first encounter, 52-49.
“I shouldn’t have to say anything on being focused for that game,” Grybowski said. “You don’t have to mention anything. I think we just need to take it one game at a time and play the way we are capable of playing. Shenango is a good team. We’ll have to play well.”
