Laurel drops section opener
Laurel (38) Vs. Riverside (58)
Dec 14, 2015
The Lady Spartans kept pace with the visiting Lady Panthers in the first quarter, but couldn't continue the momentum in a Section 1-AA loss.

Laurel (0-1, 2-3) only trailed by one point after the first eight minutes, but were outscored 17-9 and 16-6 in the next two quarters.

"We had a lot of opportunities, we missed 26 layups," Laurel coach Jessica Shevitz said. "We were in this game, we played well to start but we didn't finish. There were moments we had them rattled and couldn't quite finish."

The Lady Spartans did hold Riverside's Katie Stang to just seven points, but allowed Morgan Bailey (16) and Sydney Wolf (14) to score double-digit point totals.

Aleyce Bell and Kristin Dicks led Laurel with eight points each.
