3-point surge paces Scotties to win
Union (69) Vs. Rochester (55)
Dec 11, 2015
The Union High basketball team found its long-range shooting touch Friday night.
The Scotties connected on 11 3-point field goals in a 69-55 WPIAL Section 1-A opening victory at Rochester.
Garrison Bell led Union (1-0 section, 2-3 overall) with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, but it was Joey Crivelli and Timmy Sumner who keyed the 3-point barrage with four and three treys, respectively. Sumner finished with 14 points and Crivelli chipped in with 13. Gary Brewton checked in with seven rebounds.
Union jumped out to a 16-11 lead after one quarter and extended it to 34-26 at the half over the Rams (0-1, 2-2).
“We haven’t been shooting the ball well and our two shooters (Crivelli and Sumner) stepped up and got us out to a nice lead. Rochester was in a zone and when you face a zone like that, you have to hit your shots and we did,” Scotties coach Mark Stanley said. “I was a good game for us, I was pleased.”
