Mohawk girls win big
Mohawk (52) Vs. South Side (32)
Dec 23, 2014
The Lady Warriors connected on nine 3-pointers in their nonsection victory over visiting South Side Beaver.
Samantha Carr led the way with 20 points, while Carlee Stelter tallied 14 for Mohawk (5-2).
“That’s what we expect out of Sam, but Carlee gave us a spark off the bench,” Mohawk coach Mike O’Lare said. “When they’re playing zone, you have to hit your shots and she complemented Sam well tonight.”
Cheyenne Seik paced the Lady Rams (2-5) with 19 points.
Mohawk led by seven points at the half, but started to get hot from the field following the break.
The defensive effort for the Lady Warriors has been key to their early-season success and, when the shots started to fall, it proved too much for South Side Beaver.
“I think we missed a lot of shots in the first half,” O’Lare said. “A majority of those threes came in the second half. It wasn’t coaching, it wasn’t playing harder, the shots just fell.
“Defensively, as long as we continue to do what we do and the shots come, we’ll be OK.”
