The Lady Warriors proved they are postseason prepared in a nonsection triumph at Beaver.

In a battle between two Class AA section champions, Section 2-AA winner Mohawk (16-6) overcame the Section 6-AA champ Lady Bobcats (16-4) via a 15-10 third quarter advantage.

“It boosts you into the playoffs. I don’t know if confidence is a big factor with this team. They’re a very confident bunch,” Lady Warriors coach Mike O’Lare said. “It was a nice win because you don’t want to lose going in.”

Shelby Brown and Devon Giancola combined for 14 of Mohawk’s 15 points in the third. Giancola, who finished with 10 points, opened up the half by scoring two 3-pointers. Brown, who scored a game-high 23 points, followed with a 3-pointer of her own to give the Lady Warriors much-needed breathing room.

“I still think we can get better. I feel like we’re not at our absolute best yet,” O’Lare said. “There is still more in there. I think we’re heading in the right direction right now. There is better we have yet to uncover.”

With the WPIAL playoff pairings today, Mohawk figures to have an inside path on one of the eight first-round byes, but O’Lare isn’t ready to predict brackets just yet.

“We’d like to think we forced ourselves into a bye situation,” he said. “You have to put at least three second place teams ahead of you to not get one. You can try to predict what will happen 100 different times, but there’s a lot more that goes into it.”
