Wilmington (55) Vs. West Middlesex (97)

Wilmington struggled to keep up with the physicality of visiting West Middlesex in a 97-55 District 10, Region 2-AA loss last night.
“We knew coming in the game we had to give it all,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “They worked really hard, but we were physically outmatched. They started two guys at 6-foot-6 and another at 6-foot-3. My biggest guy is 6-foot-2.”
Matt Dogan, a Gannon recruit, and Jeremy Jansco put the “big” in the Big Reds’ offense, as the towering 6-foot-6 scorers led West Middlesex (6-0, 10-3) to a 28-4 first-quarter advantage. Dogan had a game-high 24 points, while Jansco contributed 15.
“They run a 1-2-2 and you can’t throw over top of them,” Jeckavitch said. “They can create a lot of quick passes and turnovers. They were trying to run us out of our own gym tonight a little bit, but our kids did fight hard.”
Wilmington (1-5, 4-9) committed 16 turnovers in the game and was never able to slow down a Big Reds’ offense that scored at least 23 points in each quarter.
“We missed a lot of shots tonight as well. We left a lot of points on the board,” Jeckavitch said. “They caused some turnovers and they capitalized on every turnover we made.”
The Greyhounds’ Jesse Hilliard registered 21 points, including 6 of 8 from the foul line. It is the third time this season the guard/forward has reached the 20-point plateau. Jordan Smith notched a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.
“We’re going to fight until the last game,” Jeckavitch said. “We’re trying to get better and improve every day.”
