Mohawk hangs tough with unbeaten Beaver

Mohawk hung in with Class AAA Beaver before falling 59-50 in the Mohawk Holiday Classic.

The Bobcats (9-0) are ranked No. 3 in the WPIAL in Class AAA by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Beaver knocked off Mohawk in the season-opener in the Riverside Shootout, 58-39.

The Warriors took a brief lead midway through the fourth quarter last night before the Bobcats took command.

“We came away with more positives than negatives,” Mohawk coach Rob Fadden said. “Beaver is a good basketball team.”

Saivon Watt collected 12 points to lead the Warriors (4-5).

Aaron Barlow led all scorers with 24 points for Beaver.

The Bobcats raced to a 23-12 lead after the first quarter and settled for a 31-22 halftime advantage. Mohawk cut the deficit to 41-39 after three periods.

“In the first quarter, they wre making shots and getting the ball into the interior,” Fadden said. “The second quarer and the second half, we did a much better job taking that away.”
