The Neshannock High boys basketball team jumped out to a quick lead last night and never looked back.

The Lancers improved to 6-0 after a 79-50 nonleague triumph at Western Beaver. They led 24-14 after one quarter and 44-26 at the half.

“Overall we had some pretty balanced scoring,” Neshannock coach John Corey said.

Ernie Burkes had 22 points with five assists and four steals against the Golden Beavers (1-5). The Lancers will take their undefeated record to a Section 2-AA showdown at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Mohawk.

“We didn’t perform as well as we needed to,” Corey said. “We seemed to miss a lot of defensive assignments. We’re going to have to come out and play a lot harder against Mohawk.”

Tyler Haswell was next for the winners with 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Matt McKinney swished three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points.
