Freedom girls top Laurel
Freedom (48) Vs. Laurel (38)
Dec 11, 2012
Injuries and foul trouble cost Laurel in dropping a nonsection decision at Freedom.

The Lady Spartans (1-2) lost starting point guard Brooke Dicks to injury early in the game as Freedom (1-2) took a 29-25 lead into halftime.

“It was an extremely physical game,” Laurel coach Jessica Shevitz said. “The girls played hard.”

Rachael Baker paced the Lady Spartans with 13 points including 7 of 7 from the foul line. Jessica Conrad was next with eight points.

“I think there was about 50 fouls called in the game,” Shevitz said. “It was an extremely physical night.”

Scoring was a problem in the second half as the Lady Spartans only bucketed 13 points. Dicks, who averaged 10 points in two previous games this season, only was able to score one before departing with an undisclosed injury.

“She should be back Thursday,” Shevitz said. “It was just precautionary.”
