Lady Spartans fall to OLSH
OLSH (40) Vs. Laurel (33)
Feb 04, 2011
A strong second half led Our Lady of Sacred Heart to a nonsection victory over Laurel.
The Lady Chargers (11-8) trailed by two entering the half, but they outscored Laurel, 19-10, in the final two quarters to pull away. Danielle Auth and Marissa Eckerle combined for 27 of OLSH’s 40 points.
Lady Spartans coach Jessica Shevitz wasn’t happy about the loss, but she said her team is making obvious strides.
“The last time we played (OLSH), we lost by 19,” she said. “And were within four with a few minutes to go in this one. We played much better defense, and we moved the ball well. It was a game that was won or lost at the foul line.”
The teams combined for 60 free throws. Our Lady of Sacred Heart went 17 of 37 from the line, while the Lady Spartans tossed in 15 of 23. Marisa Wallas led Laurel (5-14) with 14 points, while Becca Kerr added 10.
“Becca and Marisa both are playing so well,” Shevitz said. “It’s like having two point guards on the floor.”
