Jan 29, 2011
Sharpsville solved Wilmington’s defense in the second half and ran away with a 67-58 District 10, Region 2-AA victory.
The Blue Devils (5-0, 9-3) outscored Wilmington, 40-32, in the second half. They led by just one entering the third quarter.
“We were playing a triangle-and-two defense and it confused them a bit,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “In the second half, they started understanding what to do in it, and they made a little run with some easy transition points.”
The Greyhounds were within five with about three minutes remaining, but Sharpsville went 5 for 5 from the free-throw line to seal the victory.
Anthony Sloan had a game-high 20 points to lead the Blue Devils. Darryl Pace recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds for Wilmington (2-3, 6-10), which was playing without three bench players who were out because of illnesses.
Curtis Bretz netted 13 for the Greyhounds, while Anthony Derrick provided 11 points and six assists.
