Union girls get section victory
Union (49) Vs. Western Beaver (22)
Jan 18, 2011
Union won its first Section 1-A game in nearly two years with a balanced attack against Western Beaver.
Savannah Partridge had a rare off-night for the Lady Scots (1-5, 3-11), but her teammates picked up the slack. Miranda Heaney led Union with 15 points, and her sister, Marissa Heaney, was right behind with 13. Taryn Wright added eight, and Partridge, who’s averaging 19 points per game, scored three.
“We were following our rules, stayed in good position and because of that we were able to get some steals,” Union coach Brian Fadden said. “ We took advantage of that on offense by scoring easy baskets.”
The Lady Scots played especially well on defense, holding Western Beaver (0-6, 0-13) to seven first-half points — allowing only one in the second quarter. They entered the break with a 30-7 lead.
“We just played confident as a group,” Fadden said. “We were making the extra pass and the people who were open were making their shots. It was nice to see.”
