Union (39) Vs. Cornell (45)
Jan 08, 2011
Cornell kept the Scotties winless thanks to a strong fourth quarter in its 45-39 Section 1-A victory.
Union (0-1, 0-10) nearly knocked off the Raiders (1-0, 9-1) with a solid defensive effort. The Scotties took an early, 8-6, lead and trailed by three entering the fourth, but a 4-for-13 showing on the foul line caught up to them in the end.
“We have to get better there,” Union coach Dave Smialowski said. “We were 1 for 9 in the first half. It’s those little things that we have to clean up. And in the fourth quarter, things got a little crazy and we weren’t getting set up in our offense. That’s part of being young, but we have do better at that at this point in the season. It’s going to turn at some point, it’s just a matter of when.”
Markel Peace and Tre Major led the Scotties with 10 points each. Rodney Payne paced Cornell with 15.
