Riverside defeats Mohawk
Mohawk (61) Vs. Riverside (65)
Feb 13, 2010
Riverside spoiled the Mohawk’s Senior Night with a 65-61 Section 2-AA win.
Mason Marion (23), Zac Rorick (16) and Gig Jewell (16) all scored in double digits to help the Panthers improve to 3-8 in the section and 8-13 overall.
“Marion and Rorick were really feeling it,” Mohawk coach Kevin Wrona said. “Those are two really good shooters. We tried to exert a lot of attention on them.”
That plan backfired when Jewell, a 6-foot-4 freshman, found himself open under the hoop and converted on several key layups.
Mohawk’s Josh Morrow hit a 3-pointer with 1:45 remaining in the game to put the Warriors within two. But Riverside pulled away down the stretch thanks to clutch foul shooting.
“That’s how you put a team away,” Wrona said. “Obviously, Riverside did that to us ... and didn’t give us a chance to pull off the win.”
Mohawk started five seniors last night and each one scored a basket on the Warriors’ first five possessions of the game.
“That was kind of neat,” Wrona said. “We joked with the kids at halftime about that.”
Jake Grim finished a stellar senior season with a game-high 32 points. The 6-foot-1 guard also knocked down three 3-pointers.
