Hopewell girls crush Ellwood

Hopewell grabbed an early 27-3 lead on its way to a Section 2-AAA victory over Ellwood City Lincoln.

The Lady Vikings (6-0, 17-0) are ranked No. 1 in the WPIAL in Class AAA by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“That’s why they’re ranked very high in the state,” Lady Wolverines coach Bill Gottuso said. “They are a very well-coached team.”

First-place Hopewell managed to limit Ellwood City’s leading scorer Michelle Nocera to only seven points. Nocera came into the game averaging 16 points per game.

Jenna Ricciuti paced the Lady Wolverines (0-6, 6-9) with eight points.
