Ellwood girls stop Freedom
Ellwood City (61) Vs. Freedom (46)
Dec 18, 2009
The Ellwood City Lincoln High girls basketball team continues to make strides.

The Lady Wolverines improved to 3-1 overall after a 61-46 nonsection win at Freedom last night.

Ellwood City coach Bill Gottuso said his team was “as cold as the weather outside” in the first half, as it shot 6 for 39 from the field.

The Lady Wolverines started to heat up in the second half and eventually knocked down 9 of 13 shots and outscored Freedom, 21-7, in the fourth quarter.

“The last quarter we were pretty much on fire,” Gottuso said. “I attribute it to better conditioning. Freedom was visibly tired in the fourth quarter.”

Nicole Nocera scored 21 points and twin sister Michelle followed with 20 to lead the Lady Wolverines.

“They are relentless,” Gottuso said “They can play another four quarters if they have to. They are the Energizer bunnies.”
