All playoff hopes are officially squashed.

The Wilmington High boys basketball season ended any chance at a postseason appearence by losing a 71-62 District 10, Region 1-AA contest on the road against Mercer.

Junior guard Shane Wagner paced the ’Hounds (8-8 section, 11-13 overall) with 16 points. He had four 3-pointers.

Senior forward Ryan Foht followed with 15 points and five assists. Junior center Dallas Hartman added 15 points and 12 rebounds while Carson Sharbaugh chipped in with 11 markers.

Senior guard Tommy Myers had six steals.

“(Myers and Foht) were very coachable,” Wilmington coach Will Harris said. “I just wish we could have extended the season for those two.”
With the game tied at 17 after the first quarter, the ’Hounds took a 34-32 lead into the half. Mercer, though, outscored Wilmington in the second half, 39-28.

Dustin Snyder scored a game-high 25 points for the Mustangs (9-6, 15-7). Weston Schaa followed with 18, while Adam Braymaker added 11 and Joel Pyle scored 10.

“It was pretty much tight through three quarters,” Harris said. “They triangled us and got some separation from that. We just couldn’t recover.”
