Wilmington’s playoff hopes took a severe hit with a District 10, Region 1-AA/A loss to Mercer.
“We lost a tough one,” Lady Greyhounds coach Brian Turk said. “Foul trouble hurt us in the second half.
“The girls played real hard; the effort was definitely there.”
Wilmington (8-7 region, 12-11 overall) fell a half-game behind Reynolds (8-6, 14-7) for fourth place in the region. District 10 will likely take four teams from the league.
Wilmington must win Monday at Greenville (2-11, 4-13) and have the Lady Raiders do no better than split their final two games. Reynolds and the Lady Greyhounds split the season series.
Kara Kendall paced Wilmington with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Janelle Fauzey added 14 markers. Brooke Buchowski added 13 points and seven boards.
Kristen Jackal poured in a game-best 29 markers for the Lady Mustangs (12-3, 17-4).
