Jan 30, 2008
Despite missing three key players because of illness, the Scotties still pulled out a win in nonsection play.
Starters Matt Adamo and Jordan Clingensmith, as well as reserve Donte Calhoun, each missed the contest because of flu-like symptoms.
“I’m just glad I haven’t gotten anything,” Union coach Dave Smialowski said. “We just need to get rid of this sickness and we have to get healthy for the playoffs.”
Freedom (2-21), which entered the matchup riding an 11-game losing streak, took a 17-12 lead after the first quarter. Union came back with a 23-point second quarter to take a 35-27 lead at the half.
Jason Burkes led the Scotties (14-6) with a 26-point effort. He also had a pair of 3-pointers. Anthony Thomas followed with 10 markers.
Cody Morgan paced the Bulldogs with 18 points and Ryan Heckman followed with 12.
