Laurel (62) Vs. Avonworth (65)
Jan 21, 2017
The Antelopes held on for a 65-62 non-section win over the Spartans at the Ne-Ca-Hi Field House. The game was the second of a twinbill. It was rescheduled from the Dec. 17 Hoops for a Cure Shootout at Geneva College.
Laurel (12-4) trailed 63-62 and had the ball inside but turned it over. The Spartans fouled with seven seconds left and Avonworth (10-5) made both freebies to go up three. Laurel wasn't able to get a shot off at the end.
"There's no excuses. We had a lead but we struggled putting the ball in the hoop in the second half," Laurel coach Ken Locke said. "We didn't get the job done. We have to do a better job getting back to the way things were going."
Mason Mraz paced all scorers with 21 points. He added 20 rebounds and seven assists. Fourteen of his markers came in the first half.
Adam Enscoe contributed 14 points and Jordan Dantico delivered 13. Coltin Esposito tossed in nine tallies.
"Mason does all that stuff," Locke said. "We need some other guys to step up. We just struggled in a few spots in the game."
Garrett Day led the Antelopes with 17 points.
