Feb 01, 2016
Two seniors returned to the court for the Laurel High girls basketball team Monday night.
Aleyce Bell and Nicole Wade, who missed a combined 13 games with respective injuries, returned to participate in Senior Night festivities as the Lady Spartans posted a 50-46 WPIAL Section 1-AA victory over visiting Beaver Falls.
"Aleyce and Nicole have been out for the majority of their senior year and were able to come back out and contribute," Laurel coach Jessica Shevitz said. "To be able to be on the floor for 10 minutes each, it was just a great night for the seniors. I just love these kids, to see the smiles on their faces it makes me feel blessed to be able to be their coach."
Laurel (4-7 section, 8-12 overall) took a four-point lead into the half and went step-for-step with the Lady Tigers (4-8, 9-11) as both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter and 15 in the fourth.
"This is the first night where I felt like we played as a complete team," Shevitz said. "Everyone played within their means and did their jobs well. We played all four quarters tonight and I was really proud of them for a great win on senior night."
Caroline Gibson paced the Lady Spartans with 17 points and seven rebounds, while senior Kristin Dicks posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
