The Union High boys basketball team is going back to the playoffs.
The Scotties pulled away in the second half Saturday to capture a 63-41 WPIAL Section 1-A home win over Quigley Catholic.
The win secures a WPIAL Class A playoff berth for Union (7-2 section, 10-7 overall).
"It's always nice to make the playoffs. That's what you're playing for," Scotties coach Mark Stanley said. "Now that you're in, we'll try to win some more and get a better seed; try to win a section title, too.
"The kids are excited. They went last year and they want that experience again."
Union led just 21-12 at the half.
"We were sloppy in the first half, but we played much better in the second half," Stanley said.
Garrison Bell led the Scotties with 17 points and eight steals, while Tre’von Charles cashed in 14 markers.
Kyle Cardwell collected a game-best 19 markers for the Spartans (3-6, 4-13).
Union visits Eden Christian (7-1, 14-3) on Tuesday. A win for the Scotties sets up a matchup with Sewickley Academy (7-1, 14-2) on Friday at home with the section championship on the line.
"This is a big week for us coming up," Stanley said.
