Union stars slowly, then pours it on against Weste
Union (68) Vs. Western Beaver (44)
Jan 08, 2016
The Union High boys basketball team didn't want visiting Western Beaver hanging around too long.
With that in mind, the Scotties dominated the second and third quarters en route to a 68-44 victory over their visiting WPIAL Section 1-A foe on Friday night.
Union (3-2, 5-7) outscored Western Beaver 42-15 combined in the middle frames, as the Scotties' defensive pressure seemed to frustrate the Golden Beavers (0-4, 1-7).
"We settled in, Garrison (Bell) did a nice job on guarding their point guard," Union coach Mark Stanley said. "He does a lot of good things defensively, so he hurt them."
The contest was tied after the first quarter at 15, with Tre'Von Charles scoring 13 of his season-high 22 points in the opening quarter.
"He kept us in it and we helped him out in the second," Stanley said.
