Laurel outscores New Brighton

The Spartans’ offense was clicking in a 94-79 Section 1-AA home win over the New Brighton Lions.

Laurel (9-3, 14-6) scored at least 24 points in three of the four quarters to cruise to the victory.

“We have guys that can score,” Spartans coach Ken Locke said. “Our defense needs to get a little bit better, though.

“The good news is we had 94 but the bad news is we gave up almost 80.”

Laurel built a 42-36 lead at the half and pushed the buffer to 69-58 after three quarters.

Mason Mraz tossed in a game-high 26 points and a team-best 12 rebounds for Laurel. Scott Siddall supplied 21 points and 10 boards.

Jacob Wilson added 18 markers for the winners and Noah Wertz was next with 11.

Graham McIlvaine garnered a team-high 24 points for New Brighton (4-8, 7-11).
