The Scotties dominated the Spartans in Section 1-AA action.

Union took a commanding 42-21 lead at the half before putting the mercy rule into effect at the start of the fourth quarter.

Jason Burkes scored 16 of his 18 total points during the first half for the Scotties (7-1, 11-4). He also had seven rebounds.

Anthony Thomas matched Burkes with 18 markers and Donte Calhoun followed with 11. Matt Adamo chipped in with 13 rebounds and nine points.

“We’re just ready for Friday,” Union coach Dave Smialowski said. “We go down to Sewickley Academy. It’s a big one for us. I told the kids it’s time to gear up.”

The Scotties are ranked third in Class A by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and remain in first place in the section.

Sewickley Academy (5-2, 7-7) and Lincoln Park (5-2, 9-4) are tied for second place.
