The host Scotties did all they could against an undefeated team, but fell to Section 1-A foe Sewickley Academy.
Union (3-2, 5-7) held a lead with 14 seconds left, but a foul allowed the Panthers (4-0, 10-0) to tie the game and send it into overtime.
“It was a good game, it went back and forth,” Union coach Mark Stanley said. “But it was a tough one to lose.”
Jullian Johnson led the Scotties with 16 points and eight rebounds and Cornell Charles tallied 15 points.
Charles and Garrison Bell, who finished with seven points, both fouled out in the extra period and Sewickley Academy was able to pull away with a 17-7 advantage.
“Kids stepped up, but when those two went down, they wore us down,” Stanley said. “We have to step up and they hit a couple threes. It’s what they did do, I’m proud and the kids played hard. They deserved a better fate.”
