Wilmington (69) Vs. Sharpsville (56)

The Wilmington High boys basketball team strengthened its playoff pulse on Saturday.
Ryan Foht scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Greyhounds to a 69-56 District 10, Region 2-AA win over Sharpsville.
Each region is guaranteed one playoff spot — the champion — with the rest being at-large selections. Last year, three teams advanced from Region 2-AA and the year before four teams moved on.
According to Wilmington coach Will Harris, at least three teams could qualify this year and possibly a fourth. The Greyhounds (4-4 region, 7-7 overall) are one game behind Reynolds, Mercer Greenville for third place.
“We really needed this win to keep the playoffs in sight,” Harris said. “We’re right where we need to be.”
Wilmington trailed 10-2 early before Jake DeMedal added a spark off the bench. DeMedal netted eight of his 17 points in the first quarter and he finished 6 of 8 from the field.
“Jake really gave us a spark when he came in,” Harris said. “He’s been in a slump but I think he came out of it.”
Foht also contributed a game-best 11 rebounds. Shane Wagner notched 13 markers, while Carson Sharbaugh added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Torin Karsonovich paced the Blue Devils (2-6, 5-8) with 18 points.
Harris will welcome Dallas Hartman back to the lineup when his team travels to Shenango for a nonconference clash at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow. Hartman missed the last eight games because of a broken hand. Chris Burns also missed the Sharpsville game because he was on a football trip to the University of Pittsburgh, Harris said.
“I’m excited to have our full team back,” Harris said. “It makes the team that much stronger. Now we can go deeper on the bench.”
