Lady Lancers roll to win
Neshannock (58) Vs. Rochester (32)
Dec 18, 2013
The Lady Lancers won their second road games in as many days.
Neshannock (6-0) limited Rochester to single digits in three of four quarters.
“It was a good win on the road,” Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said. “It’s a win, but I’m not always happy with wins.
“We played well defensively in spurts. There were a lot of deflections and loose balls that we didn’t get to, because they beat us to them. That can’t happen in tight games.”
Grybowski wasn’t happy with another slow start to the second half.
Neshannock managed just nine points against Rochester (1-5) after scoring just seven against New Brighton on Monday.
“It was a slow third quarter,” Grybowski said. “I don’t know what it is, but we’ve got to fix it. We can’t have a turnaround like that. We have to play four good quarters if we want to be a championship team. We can’t be up and down, up and down.”
The Lady Lancers’ 19 turnovers also angered their coach. The team did have 15 assists on 18 field goals.
“I wasn’t happy with the turnovers,” Grybowski said. “The assists could have been better. We had other opportunities where we didn’t make the right decisions then we tried to force things and had a turnover. The ball movement wasn’t good.”
Madison McHale posted her fifth straight game surpassing the 20-point plateau with a game- and season-high 24 points. She added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Tayler Grybowski added eight points, seven rebounds, six steals and three assists.
“I’d like three people in double figures, but we weren’t there tonight,” Luann Grybowski said. “We need to get to that point or we’ll start to see defenses gearing up to stop Madison.”
