Kittanning 51, Ellwood City 50
Kittanning (52) Vs. Ellwood City (50)
Jan 04, 2008
Ellwood City Lincoln’s Chaz Roth missed 2 of 3 foul shots with three-tenths of a second left that could have tied or won it as Kittanning secured the nonsection win.
Anthony Washington, a sophomore making his first varsity start, recorded a career-high 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Washington was filling in for Anthony Sainato, who sustained multiple fractures of his orbital bone in a collision for a loose ball in a loss to Western Beaver on Dec. 29. Sainato is likely lost for the season.
“We needed some offense and Anthony gave it to us,” Wolverines coach Jason Bumblis said. “It was nice to plug someone in there and get 17 out of him.”
Roth was next for Ellwood City (2-11) with 13 points and Mike Sacco chipped in with 10 markers and five rebounds.
Carl Shearer led all scorers with 19 points for the Wildcats (6-8) and Ryan Risch added 11.
Kittanning was 22 of 35 from the field but committed 19 turnovers to just nine for Ellwood City.
