Wilmington slips past Laurel
Wilmington (51) Vs. Laurel (43)
Dec 18, 2012
Tessa Sikora scored 18 points to help the Lady Greyhounds post their first victory of the season in the nonconference contest.

Carly Christofferson added 13 more points for Wilmington (1-4), followed by Hannah Drake with 11.

Laurel (1-5) got 11 points from Kristin Dicks and 10 from Maddison Deinert.

Laurel carried a 29-27 lead into the fourth quarter, but was outscored 24-14 in the final frame. Wilmington, which was 23 of 37 from the foul line, tallied 14 of its fourth-period points from the charity stripe.

Laurel, meanwhile, was just 7 of 12 from the line overall.

“It wasn’t a physical game, and it wasn’t a poorly called game,” Laurel head coach Jessica Shevitz said. “We can’t blame it on the officials. It was just youthful mistakes on our part.

“We’re young — I’m still missing two starters — and we have no seniors. We were up by six somewhere in the fourth quarter, but this is like the third time this season we let a fourth-quarter lead slip away. It’s just inexperience on our part.”
