Lady ’Cats roll to victory
Shenango (59) Vs. New Brighton (22)
Everything clicked for the Shenango High girls basketball team.
The Lady Wildcats turned the heat up on host New Brighton in their 59-22 WPIAL Section 1-AA win last night.
Shenango (1-1 section, 3-1 overall) was led by Jacqui Baker’s game-high 20 points and six rebounds, while Samantha Seaburn followed with a double-double of 14 points and 11 boards.
Angelina Sibeto and Carolyn Peterson both added eight points.
“We focused a lot more this week on trying to shut teams down,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “We played better defense (last night) but we still have a long way to go.”
Shenango held the Lady Lions to just eight field goals overall, all from inside the arc.
Turk credited the guard play for the success of Baker and Seaburn as they were on target with their passes. The Lady Wildcats posted 16 total assists, with Sibeto leading the way with six.
“The thing was, I thought our guards did a good job of getting the ball to them into the zone defense,” Turk said. “That gave Jacqui and Sam some good looks. They got some missed shots but our guards did a good job of getting them the ball.”
Cara Haddox posted 11 points for New Brighton (0-1, 0-4).
