Riverside edges Ellwood City in OT
Riverside (54) Vs. Ellwood City (51)
Ellwood City Lincoln made nine 3-pointers to come back from a 12-point halftime deficit.
In the end, they needed a bit more, as the rival Panthers won by three in overtime.
“We were trying to crawl our way back all night,” Wolverines coach Anthony Ovial said. “They made a couple more plays in overtime than us. I’m very proud of the way we battled back.”
Mario Greco bucketed 25 points with three 3-pointers. Nick Aloi was next with 10 points, including a 3-pointer to send the game into extra frames. Nick Valentino finished with nine points on three 3-pointers.
“It was one possession at a time,” Ovial said. “Greco, Valentino and Aloi stepped up and made big threes.”
The Wolverines (2-5) have dropped five straight after winning their season-opening tournament. Ovial remains optimistic about the future of his offense.
“Every good team has three four maybe five weapons. I thought we had three guys who stepped up and made shots. Good teams do that,” he said. “It’s tough when you crawl your way back and it goes down as a loss, but I’m still encouraged by what I’m seeing.”
