Shenango boys rally past Beaver
Shenango (74) Vs. Beaver (61)
The Shenango High boys finished the first half of the season with one of its best performances of the year.
The Wildcats had five players score in double figures in a 74-61 come-from-behind nonsection victory over Beaver last night.
Shenango (2-4 conference, 8-6 overall) outscored the Bobcats, 27-12, in the fourth quarter to secure the win. The Wildcats trailed by two entering the frame.
“In the fourth, our guys did a great job driving and dishing,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “(Mike) Linz had eight points in the fourth. He was cutting to the hoop, knocking down shots and our guys were finding him. The guys played real unselfish.”
It showed in the Wildcats’ statistics. Jeff Williams led all scorers with 20 points, but he was followed by Linz (16), Jordan O’Hara (12), Brett Chieze (10) and Tynen Greer (10). Chieze also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double; Greer had four assists and four steals and O’Hara added four more assists.
“Every guy that came in contributed,” McQuiston said. “I was real proud of our effort. I thought the whole game our guys came out really intense. Our guards did a tremendous job spreading the floor. Greer got us going in the first half. He scored six points and he did a great job dishing the ball.”
Shenango is at Laurel for a WPIAL Section 2-AA game on Friday.
“It’s going to be a tough matchup over there,” McQuiston said. “They’re playing well right now, and they’re always hard to beat at home.”
