Lady Lancers hand Beaver first section loss
Neshannock (59) Vs. Beaver (50)
The Neshannock High girls basketball team is on a roll.

It’s been nearly four weeks since the Lady Lancers were defeated.

That loss came on Jan. 4 to Beaver, the same team Neshannock toppled, 59-50, in a homecourt WPIAL Section 2-AA meeting last night.

“It feels great,” Lady Lancers coach Luann Grybowski said. “The players followed the gameplan to a T.”

The Lady Bobcats are coached by former Neshannock girls bench boss Greg Huston.

Chelsea Kauffman netted a game-high 23 points, Ericka Warvell chipped in 15 and Tara Richardson added 13 to help Neshannock (5-3 section, 10-5 overall) win its seventh straight game.

“It was a total team effort,” Grybowski said. “All seven kids that played contributed. So it was a nice win.”

Neshannock fell behind 11-1 in the first quarter, but managed to take control of the game courtesy of a 20-0 run that started with two minutes left in the second period.

The Lady Lancers took a commanding 43-27 lead into the final frame and hung on for the win, despite only hitting 9 of 19 free throws down the stretch.

First-place Beaver (8-1, 12-3) suffered its first loss in eight games.

Neshannock was able to keep the Lady Bobcats’ leading scorers Kendra Pilarski and Paige Onuska under control. Pilarski netted 16 points, followed by Onuska with 14.

“Defensively, we played exceptional,” Grybowski said.

The Lady Lancers outrebounded Beaver, 31-19.
